Old systems do not necessarily have to be taken out of service. According to the Industrial Safety Ordinance, however, as the operator, you are obliged to “review the risk assessment taking further technical developments into account, and, if necessary, to take additional protective measures to ensure that the use is safe according to the current state of the art” (Section 3 (7) in connection with Section 4 (1) Industrial Safety Ordinance [BetrSichV]).
